Getting to BiCon

Getting to Bicon 2016

Our event takes place at the University of Central Lancashire  – who have published a campus map here as a downloadable PDF – http://www.uclan.ac.uk/visit/assets/preston_city_campus_map.PDF

On this map our day venue is Harrington – HA.
Our social venue is  the Student Union – SU.
The accommodation called 'Liberty Court' and is opposite Victoria II Car park – Number 24 on the map.

You can see how close these venues are to each other on this page http://2016.bicon.org.uk/venue/videos/.

Coach

You can get the National Express coach in to Preston Bus Station. From here you can get a taxi or a bus up to the university area.

Train

Preston is the nearest rail station to the BiCon venue. It has trains from most large cities in England and Scotland, and we'll be sure to let you know when advance (cheap) train tickets are available – about 12 weeks before the event. There are no buses directly from the train station to our event area – so the university would advise arranging a taxi.

Buses

Buses 31, 31A and 44 all go direct to the Liberty Court accommodation from the bus station. Timetables and prices can be found here http://www.prestonbus.co.uk/.

Taxis in Preston

All Taxis are on a meter unless agreed to during time of booking. If you want to taxi-share, please use the 2016 attendees facebook group to arrange this directly with other attendees.

Walking

Walking from the bus station would be approximately 15 minutes. Here's the instructions below – we would recommend checking GoogleMaps and printing a map prior to starting your journey.

From Bus Station to Harrington Building (Day Venue) "Walk towards Preston market then continue on ahead past the st Georges centre (Friargate) till you arrive at the traffic lights. Cross the road and you should be next to the Wetherspoons pub. Continue down this road (BHF furniture store will be opposite you (to your left) on the other side of the road) follow the path you are already on. Continue on past the shops for about 5 minutes (if you see the Tesco express on the other side of the road you've come the right way) until you arrive at the zebra crossing (the second one slightly further down the road not the first) looking around you should be able to see the Adelphi pub on Adelphi Street cross the two roads, when you arrive outside this pub the path directly along the side to the right is the one you walk down, walking for about two minutes the library should now be on your left continue past walking for 2-3 minutes the Harrington building is clearly marked to the right."

You will need to move into the middle lane for the next set of traffic lights to go straight on, signposted Liverpool and Southport. Continue straight through the next set of traffic lights. Move over to the right hand lane to be ready to turn right at the next traffic lights, signposted for Blackpool and the University.

Car Parking:

You can purchase a car parking permit for £15 for the whole weekend by sending a paypal payment to bicon2016@gmail.com – if you are having any difficulty or wish to pay by BACS please just email us. Permits are limited in number and although a first come first served system is in place – priority will be given to those with access needs.
